Villa Samalas — Designed for Stillness in Pererenan, Badung

Villa Samalas occupies a considered position along Jl. Sempol in Pererenan, one of the quieter residential lanes in the Mengwi sub-district of Badung, where the density of Seminyak gradually gives way to open fields and low-rise compounds. The villa's architecture draws from Balinese building tradition while incorporating contemporary tropical materials — raw volcanic stone walls, dark-stained timber screens, and polished terrazzo floors that stay cool underfoot even in the afternoon heat. Four bedrooms are arranged to ensure privacy between guests, making the property equally suited to a single extended group or two families travelling together.

Galih Last Test

The interiors are composed with restraint. Neutral linen, locally woven textiles, and handcrafted rattan furniture sit alongside international-standard mattresses and blackout curtaining. Every bedroom connects, directly or visually, to the garden. The main living pavilion opens fully on two sides, dissolving the boundary between interior and the pool terrace — a design choice that keeps the space feeling generous even when all eight guests are gathered.

Pererenan itself is at an interesting moment. Long favoured by Balinese-resident artists and surfers drawn to the black-sand beach at the end of the lane, the neighbourhood has developed a precise selection of cafes, natural wine bars, and cooking-forward restaurants without losing the unhurried quality that defines it. The weekly Pererenan market, a handful of world-class surf breaks, and the Canggu strip are all within a short ride, yet the villa sits far enough from the main road that the only consistent sounds are birdsong and the distant gamelan from a nearby ceremony.

Elevate Villas Bali manages the property to a standard calibrated for discerning travellers — daily housekeeping, a dedicated villa manager reachable by WhatsApp, and airport-transfer coordination on request. Check-in is arranged flexibly from 14:00, and the team can assist with private chef hire, in-villa spa treatments, and curated day itineraries across Badung and beyond.

Spaces Composed for Comfort and Privacy

Master Bedroom Suite

King bed · ensuite bathroom · garden terrace access

The master suite occupies the most private wing of the villa, finished in polished terrazzo and raw timber. A king-size bed faces sliding glass panels that open directly onto a private garden terrace, with an ensuite bathroom fitted with a standalone soaking tub and rain shower.

Second King Bedroom

King bed · ensuite · pool view

A generously proportioned room with a king-size bed, dark-stained timber headboard, and direct sightlines to the pool terrace through louvred glass doors. The ensuite features a walk-in rain shower and locally sourced stone vanity surfaces.

Twin Bedroom One

Two single beds · ensuite · garden outlook

Two single beds dressed in white linen occupy this calm, well-ventilated room. A compact ensuite with stone-tile shower and a garden-facing window make it a practical and comfortable choice for travelling companions or younger guests.

Twin Bedroom Two

Two single beds · ensuite · courtyard aspect

The fourth bedroom mirrors its twin counterpart in layout and finish, with two singles, built-in storage, and an ensuite bathroom. Its position off the rear courtyard ensures quiet and shade throughout the morning.

Open Living Pavilion

Lounge · dining · fully open on two sides

The main social space of the villa opens on two sides via folding timber-louvred screens. A dining table seats eight, the lounge area features deep linen sofas, and the entire pavilion is cross-ventilated for natural cooling through the day.

Pool and Terrace

Private pool · sun terrace · outdoor lounge

A full-length private pool runs along the villa's south-facing garden, flanked by stone pavers and timber sun loungers. An outdoor seating area with ambient lighting extends the terrace into a functional evening space for dining and conversation.

A Day at Villa Samalas

You arrive along a lane lined with frangipani and temple walls, the kind of approach that signals you have left the main road behind for good. The villa gate opens onto a stone-paved courtyard where the pool is already catching the late-afternoon light. Check-in takes minutes — keys, a cold drink, a brief orientation from the villa manager — and then the space is entirely yours.

Mornings begin at your own pace. The kitchen is stocked with whatever provisions you arranged on arrival, and the open-plan living area fills with cross-ventilation long before the day grows warm. Breakfast on the terrace, with the garden still cool and the birds audible, is a reliable ritual by day two. If the surf is calling, Pererenan beach is a short ride from the gate, and the breaks at Echo Beach and Old Man's are equally close.

By afternoon the pool becomes the gravitational centre of the villa. Sun loungers run the full length of the terrace, and the pavilion's timber-louvred screens filter the western sun without closing off the view. Some guests arrange a private chef to arrive at four and have a four-course dinner ready by seven. Others walk to one of the lane's quiet restaurants and return for cocktails under the outdoor lights.

Evenings at Villa Samalas tend to stretch longer than planned. The outdoor seating area lends itself to conversation, the ambient lighting is warm without being theatrical, and Badung at night — with its ceremony sounds and cool air — has a quality that makes returning indoors feel premature. When you do, the bedrooms are prepared: curtains drawn, beds turned down, the day fully spent.

Why Pererenan Is Earning Its Own Reputation

Pererenan has spent years in the shadow of Canggu, but the lane culture, the black-sand beach, and a precise roster of resident-owned restaurants are establishing it as a destination in Badung worth seeking out on its own terms.

Renting a Villa for Eight — What the Group Gets Right

Shared villas in Badung consistently outperform hotel rooms when the group is four or more. Private pools, communal kitchens, and the absence of lobby schedules change the rhythm of a trip in ways that are difficult to overstate.
